Where are you from?
Pakistan
What are your academic and/or technical interests?
I work as a research assistant on an NSF EPSCoR project using satellite imagery and Python to analyze glacial turbidity across Alaskan watersheds. My interests are along the lines of machine learning, geospatial data science, and environmental modeling, specifically using ML pipelines to extract signal from messy real-world data. I'm also interested in how large-scale compute changes what's tractable in data-intensive science.
Do you have any hobbies?
Photography (film and digital), skiing, hiking, playing the piano, and traveling.
What are you most excited about for this program?
I've never worked with a supercomputer before. My current research hits computational limits with satellite time-series data so I'm genuinely curious what changes when you have real HPC access. I'm also excited to work on a project with people from outside CS.
