We encourage students from STEM fields outside of computing to apply and learn how supercomputers and parallel processing can help solve complex computational science problems.

When and Where

The bootcamp will run in the Chicagoland area on August 9 – 14, 2026. 

Cost

There are no fees to participate. Domestic airfare, meals listed on the agenda, and lodging are provided along with a stipend to cover any additional costs for the week.

Who is eligible to apply for the Argonne Introduction to HPC Bootcamp?

Successful applicants will demonstrate a strong interest and motivation to develop skills in high-performance computing (HPC). Applicants should be undergraduate or early-career graduate students in STEM with interest but no experience in HPC. 

 

The Argonne Introduction to HPC Bootcamp will provide training to approximately 70 participants. Qualified applicants will have: 

- Little to no experience with high-performance computing

- Little to no experience with artificial intelligence or machine learning techniques

- Some experience with python or another programming language 

Can non-U.S citizens apply?

Yes! Non-U.S. applicants who are currently at U.S. institutions are welcome to apply. For those accepted, they will need to share their passport, visa, and/or I-94. More information about when and where to submit these documents will be shared upon acceptance to the program.

What is the application deadline?

When can I expect to hear if I was accepted to the bootcamp?

By end of March or early April 2026.

What is the cost to attend the bootcamp?

Free! Travel, meals listed on the agenda, and lodging will be covered for all participants. An additional stipend will be provided to all participants to cover any additional costs. 

Is this bootcamp in-person or virtual?

The bootcamp is in-person only. Bootcamp materials will be made publically available to review after the event. 

Where is the bootcamp located?

The bootcamp will take place at the Q Center, a conference center in St. Charles, IL about 40 miles outside of Chicago, IL.

Do I need to attend the bootcamp every day?

Yes, if accepted, participants must attend the bootcamp throughout the scheduled days: August 9-14, 2026.
