The University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Where are you from?

Originally from Vietnam and then Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

What are your academic and/or technical interests?

I hope to participate in energy-related projects, especially those that teach how different energy types are generated and consumed, and how to reduce environmental impact while increasing generating efficiency at scale. I know these matters rarely happen together in reality, but I'd love to take my first steps into the energy field and explore how I can help. My background lacks study in this area, but I learn and understand better in science-based majors. I have a strong interest in learning more about energy. Whether working in AI/ML or other fields, I want to include environmental factors in my designs and work. Participating in such projects will be the biggest opportunity for me to practice and improve for those purposes.

Do you have any hobbies?

I share my favorite music and photography on Instagram (landscape, cute things, pets, quotes, animals). I also enjoy singing. I like taking pictures and editing them in a retro or nature-vibrant style. I’ve come to listen, touch, and feel more attentively about the things around me, jotting down my thoughts and maybe sharing them with my favorite people. I effortlessly engage in these daily practices.

What are you most excited about for this program?

I’m excited to participate in a knowledge-sharing environment where I’ve found the most support and opportunities to learn and grow. I’ll meet new people and potentially gain inspiration for my future career. Although I’ve made efforts in school, I’m still relatively new to technology and will continue to learn and practice. This bootcamp will be my first community project work, and I’m fully committed to making a positive impact.
