Where are you from?
I’m originally from Paducah KY, and I now live in Weymouth MA right outside of Boston.
What are your academic/technical/or energy justice interests?
I specialize in embedded software engineering, and since college I’ve worked at a couple startups, including my current role at Eyebot building an automated eye exam kiosk. My current role is pretty varied and involves python, Linux, hardware controls, cloud infrastructure, API development, and image processing. My last role was to write microcontroller firmware for a Bluetooth-connected muscle analyzer.
In college I had two energy-related internships: first at a solar company in Tanzania, and then at a startup making a home energy monitor. Through these experiences I learned of the wide variety of both consequences and opportunities for solutions presented by the global climate and energy crises. I also recently installed solar panels on my roof, and the process gave me a crash course in energy-related policies like net metering and tax incentives.
Do you have any hobbies?
I love gardening, movies, reading, amateur birdwatching, crafting, and kitchen experiments.
What are you most excited about for this program?
I’m super excited to spend a week with this group discussing how we can develop and use our skills to solve real problems and make a positive impact. I also love debugging code, so I’m also excited to help the students accomplish their goals for the week.
