Dr. Andy Nonaka is a Staff Scientist and Group Lead of the Center for Computational Sciences and Engineering (CCSE) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Pacific and his PhD in Engineering Applied Science from the University of California, Davis. He is interested in HPC implementations of multiphysics and multiscale algorithms for PDEs using structured grid, adaptive mesh, particle/grid, and machine learning algorithms. He has worked with domain scientists to study problems in astrophysics, combustion, microfluidics, and microelectronics by developing numerical strategies that can often be shared across scientific disciplines. Dr. Nonaka’s career path has been heavily influenced by DOE laboratory internships and fellowships; thus he is passionate about upholding LBL’s mission of engaging with and training the next generation of scientists and engineers.
